AFFECTATION

Affectation is not the innate, inborn attribute of a person but it is his behavior, his demeanor through which he hides his weaknesses and projects in front of people as if he does not possess this weakness. He does not want the opposite person to understand his drawback, his weak point. That is why he is ostentatious; and conceals himself as if in a mask. The motive behind him doing this is to hide his fears or shortcomings; he will portray himself as very courageous, as if someone of high rank or to impress other people. This quality of a person is assessed his action or speech.

The remedies listed in this rubric show their affectation in the below-mentioned states:

HYOS: HYOS displays affectation due to his high-spiritedness. Even though he is in an awful state, he does not let himself be affected by it and conceals his fears so well that no one can ever make out that he is fearful and apprehensive from within. Such a patient, knowing that he is a diabetic, will often tell the physician, "There is nothing so special. I can tide over this situation with ease, you just put me on the right medication." The moment the physician recommends him to get a blood test done, he will immediately try to evade the test by asking the physician to put him on medications and avoid the need for testing. "What if some order disorder also shows up on the blood test?!"

STRAM: During the state of ill health, the STRAM is quiet fearful from within, as the disease is totally unacquainted and unknown to him. He is unaware of what trouble or perplexity the disease can create for him. This thought keeps dwelling in his mind, as to how did he develop this illness all of a sudden? To what extent can this disease pervade in the future? At all times, he tires to gather information pertaining to his disease, from the concerned physician. But when questioned as to why is he inquiring so much, is he fearful of something? To which, he immediately replies, “No, nothing as such.” But this statement of his is accompanied by a smile which reflects his underlying fear. This smile of the STRAM patient reveals that this is his AFFECTATION.

LYCO: The only yearning in a LYCO person is that he should be the number one and the most powerful of all but when he meets up with any new person, he feels that person to be more mightier than him. He thinks that if he doesn’t portray or depict himself as a firm and vigorous person, this new person will be one up on him. He lacks in self confidence so much so that he would not even try to stand up in front of the opposite person and try to control him. Hence, his speech is exalted (affectation) so that the opposite person may not be able to subdue him. He will try to employ any means to achieve his target, his victory.

IGNATIA: The IGNATIA patient desires that her internal resentment, fret, and indignation should not be revealed outside because she does not want to pollute the surroundings. Let things continue to go on the way they have been going on, because if she expresses her petulance, the situation could worsen and get out of hand. She is so secretive that she does not let her mental state to be revealed or disclosed to any one else. Even if someone wants to, they cannot discover what is going on in this patient’s mind. She wants to portray herself as a very nice, pleasant lady. She wants to do things which are agreeable to others; this she does due to her sensitivity to moral feelings.

NAT-MUR: This patient believes himself to be very dignified; that he has a reputation in the society due to which people value and revere him. Consequently, he always attempts to safeguard this demeanor of his and that people always continue to hold him in high regards. To fall sick is a very miserable and piteous state for him; this sickness can impair his dignified stance in the society. He considers illness as a state which can denunciate his status. So he remains in pretense (affectation) to hide this weakness of his.
